John "Jack" Blennerhassett (b.1889 Birmingham, d.1969)
alias "J. B. Hassett"
of Erdington & Wylde Green, Birmingham,
and of Churston Ferrers, Brixham, Devon.
Jack Blennerhassett founded "Hassett & Harper", silversmiths of Regent Place, Birmingham, located in Birmingham's famous "Jewelery Quarter". They also made pewterware, following his acquisition of "Sturges, Bladen & Middleton" who used the Knighthood trademark from the 1930s until they ceased trading in 1978, and "Browetts Pewterware Ltd" who used the Lion brand.
He used the name "J. B. Hassett" for all business purposes and in 1938 was president of "Birmingham Jewellers' Association" (later to become the British Jewellers' Association"), when at their annual dinner they hosted Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain immediately following his return from meeting Adolf Hitler at Munich, his speech at the dinner being the first to be broadcast after that event.
The Chamberlains are a distinguished and long established Birmingham family.
During WWII the company made light steel pressings for ammunition, having contracts from the Ministry of Supply (MOS), Admiralty and Ministry of Aircraft Production (MAP).
