William Hassett (alias Blennerhassett, b.c1790/4 Ireland, d.11-Jul-1876 Hassett) was foreman of the first sawmill on the Sissaboo River (at what is now Weymouth Falls). He acquired land and became a farmer, founding the small community of Hassett (near New Tusket, Clare township, Digby County) which grew up around him, taking its name from him and his homestead. William Hassett was also the first postmaster at Hassett, his son Byron succeeding him. |

Hassett, Nova Scotia
This community has always been named "Hassett", with signs as shown here.
In 2004 the municipality erected new signs reading "Hassetts", an error that hopefully will be corrected. |
